He is a 1980 graduate of Yeshiva College, and earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the Bernard Revel Graduate School. After receiving semicha from RIETS, Rabbi Rosensweig was among the first group to complete the intensive post-graduate studies in RIETS' Caroline and Joseph S. Gruss Kollel Elyon.\r\nRabbi Rosensweig was appointed a Rosh Yeshiva, a member of the RIETS faculty, in 1985. He has written extensively, contributing to numerous journals of Torah learning.\r\nRabbi Rosensweig received his semikha (rabbinic ordination) fromYeshiva University’s affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) and was a distinguished fellow of its post-semikha institute, the Gruss Kollel Elyon. He received his undergraduate degree from Yeshiva College and earned his Ph.D. in medieval Jewish history from the University’s Bernard Revel Graduate School while studying under Professor Haym Soloveitchik. He was also a student of Rav Aharon Lichtenstein, renowned Talmudic scholar and rosh yeshiva at Yeshivat Har Etzion and director of RIETS’ Joseph and Caroline Gruss Institute in Jerusalem.\r\nIn 1985, Rabbi Rosensweig was appointed rosh yeshiva in the Yeshiva Program\/Mazer School of Talmudic Studies, one of four undergraduate Jewish studies divisions for men at Yeshiva University. He received his rabbinic ordination from RIETS, where he\r\nalso earned the distinction of Yadin Yadin.\r\n\r\nRabbi Reiss served as director of the Beth Din of America from 1998 to 2008.\r\nThe Beth Din, which was founded by and is affiliated with the Rabbinical\r\nCouncil of America (RCA) and sponsored by the Union of Orthodox Jewish\r\nCongregations of America (OU), is the largest rabbinical court in the\r\ncountry. It handles over 500 cases a year in the areas of Jewish divorce,\r\ncommercial arbitrations, and mediation.\r\n\r\nIn his directorship of the Beth Din, Rabbi Reiss worked to resolve cases of\r\nagunot and popularize the use of the RCA pre-nuptial agreement as a\r\nprotection against future agunah problems.\r\n\r\nFrom 1992 to 1998, Rabbi Reiss worked as an associate at the international\r\nlaw firm of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York City. He maintained\r\nan association with the firm until 1999. He is a member of the New York\r\nState Bar Association, a certified mediator for the City of New York court\r\nsystem, and a member of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council for New\r\nYork.\r\n\r\nRabbi Reiss serves on the editorial board of Tradition magazine. He is the University’s third president and the first native-born American to head the nation’s oldest and most comprehensive institution of higher learning. \r\nBorn in Brooklyn, NY in 1927, Dr. Lamm received his elementary and high school education at Yeshiva and Mesivta Torah Vodaath. In 1945, he entered Yeshiva College where he continued his Jewish learning and undertook a liberal arts program with a major in chemistry. He graduated summa cum laude in 1949 and was class valedictorian. \r\nUpon graduation, Dr. Lamm pursued advanced scientific studies at Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn while continuing his Judaic studies and rabbinic scholarship at Yeshiva. He was ordained as a rabbi by YU’s affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary in 1951, and earned a Ph.D. in Jewish philosophy from the University’s Bernard Revel Graduate School in 1966.\r\nDuring the 17 years preceding his election as president, Dr. Lamm served on the Yeshiva University faculty, culminating in his appointment as the Erna and Jakob Michael Professor of Jewish Philosophy in 1966. He has also been spiritual leader of the Jewish Center in Manhattan, rabbi of Congregation Kodimoh in Springfield, MA, and assistant rabbi at New York City’s Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun. \r\nDr. Lamm has gained wide recognition for his writings and discourses on interpretation of Jewish philosophy and law, especially in relation to problems involving science, technology, and philosophy in the modern world. He has authored ten books, the most recent, The Religious Thought of Hasidism: Text and Commentary, won the coveted 1999 Jewish Book Award in Jewish Thought. Rabbi Lamm has edited or co-edited over twenty volumes, including The Library of Jewish Law and Ethics.
